A Systematic Withdrawal Plan (SWP) is a facility offered by mutual funds that allows investors to withdraw a fixed amount of money at regular intervals. It is widely used by retirees to generate a steady, tax-efficient monthly income from their accumulated corpus.
Why is SWP better than FD Interest?
Unlike Fixed Deposit interest which is fully taxable under your income slab, SWP withdrawals are highly tax-efficient. When you withdraw via SWP, only the "capital gains" portion of the withdrawal is taxed (at 12.5% for LTCG on equity), while the principal withdrawal is completely tax-free.
